Occupants’ Presence in Kharkiv Region Is a Matter of Time, Says Budanov

In a recent telethon, Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), noted that Russian forces in the Kharkiv region had attempted to create a “buffer zone,” but these efforts had failed. When asked by a journalist whether the occupiers had abandoned their attempts to create such a zone, he replied, “No, they remain in the occupied territories of the Kharkiv region, but it’s only a matter of time.”

Budanov emphasized that the minimum goal for Russian military forces this year is to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, while the maximum goal is to gain control over Ukraine by any means necessary. Despite these aggressive plans, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to put up strong resistance.

Strikes on Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure

In an interview with TSN, Budanov also addressed the issue of energy security in Ukraine. He stated that while Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure could significantly complicate the operation of the energy system, it is nearly impossible to completely destroy it.

“The system has several levels of protection because, during the Soviet era, it was highly redundant. There are, conditionally, three or four levels of redundancy, or in certain nodes, duplication exists. Making life difficult is possible. Completely destroying it is nearly impossible,” said the GUR chief.

He also added that, like Ukraine, Russia is trying to protect its energy system from potential strikes by increasing its air defense systems, as it has more resources for this purpose.

Conclusion

Kyrylo Budanov’s statements clearly demonstrate that Ukrainian authorities are aware of the risks associated with Russia’s military actions. However, thanks to a robust defense system, Ukraine is prepared to withstand aggression and maintain its independence.
