Following the recent attack on the “Crocus” concert complex in Moscow allegedly carried out by individuals affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS), questions arise regarding Ukraine’s potential involvement. According to Amaq, an information agency linked to the terrorist group, the attack is portrayed as retaliation against Russia’s anti-ISIS efforts.
Photographs of possible perpetrators of the attack were disseminated by the Amaq agency, showcasing individuals whose attire matches that of those apprehended in video footage. Such evidence is being circulated as indicative of their involvement in the terror act.
As per reports from the American television channel CBS News, the United States had forewarned Russian authorities about the likelihood of an attack, furnishing them with pertinent intelligence in advance. This information has also been corroborated by the spokesperson for the National Security Council, Adrian Watson.
However, amidst these developments, speculations have emerged implicating Ukraine in the terrorist incident. While concrete evidence of Ukrainian involvement remains absent, the Russian authorities are insinuating Ukrainian complicity.
Contrary narratives, however, have surfaced. Belarusian security services, for instance, have affirmed their participation in joint operations to apprehend militants attempting to cross the border into Belarus. Additionally, sources of terrorist financing in Dagestan have been uncovered.
Thus, while certain figures within the Russian government are attempting to propagate the notion of terrorists’ ties to Ukraine, factual evidence suggests otherwise. The saga surrounding this attack presents numerous facets yet to be unveiled, warranting further investigation by international intelligence agencies.
