Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, issued a strong statement regarding the latest actions of the Russian Federation and its president, Vladimir Putin. According to Kuleba, Putin’s ultimatums failed to garner international support as they were merely an attempt to create a “PR wave” ahead of an important peace summit.
Kremlin’s PR Strategy Fails
Kuleba pointed out that Russia understood the significance and scale of the upcoming summit and tried to undermine it with political provocations. “They used Putin as ‘political nuclear weapon’ to downplay our summit. However, this attempt was unsuccessful, and his position was not taken seriously,” the minister emphasized.
Two Fundamental Mistakes by Putin
In his statements, Putin made two critical mistakes, Kuleba noted. The first was using the language of ultimatums, which is unacceptable in modern international diplomacy. The second was the unthinkable demand that a sovereign state abandon its own territories. Such demands contradict international law and the principles of sovereignty.
Joint Declaration of the Peace Summit
Dmytro Kuleba also announced the completion of work on a joint declaration at the peace summit. Countries that were not present at the meeting can still join this document. “The text of the declaration is balanced, and Ukraine’s key points have been taken into account,” the minister stated.
Context of Russian Aggression
Russian aggression against Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014, when Russia illegally annexed Crimea and began supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine. In recent years, Ukraine has been actively defending its independence and territorial integrity with the support of the international community. The latest actions by the Kremlin only confirm its unwillingness to resolve the conflict peacefully.
Ukraine firmly stands on the principles of defending its sovereignty and will not allow Russia to dictate terms. The international community continues to support Ukraine in its struggle for independence and territorial integrity, condemning Russia’s aggressive actions.
