A shocking aviation disaster involving an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, which occurred on December 25 in Kazakhstan, is revealing dramatic new details. According to international investigators, the tragedy resulted from a direct hit by a Russian surface-to-air missile.

Timeline and Key Facts

Euronews, citing sources in the Azerbaijani government, reports that Flight 8432 was struck by a Russian missile during its automatic flight over Grozny. Missile fragments caused critical damage to the aircraft, injuring passengers and crew members.

The most shocking aspect of the incident was Russia’s refusal to allow an emergency landing at nearby airports. Instead, the damaged aircraft was forced to fly across the Caspian Sea to Aktau, Kazakhstan, located 440 kilometers from the incident site.

Attempted Cover-up

Reuters, citing four independent sources close to the investigation, confirms the Russian air defense attack. Senior Azerbaijani officials told Anadolu Agency that the aircraft’s communication system was completely disabled due to Russian electronic warfare (EW) systems.

Particularly noteworthy is the jamming of GPS navigation throughout the flight over the Caspian Sea, indicating an attempt to hide the aircraft’s actual route and incident circumstances.

Crew Heroism

Thanks to the pilots’ professionalism, they prevented a complete disaster and saved some passengers and three crew members, who became key witnesses. This significantly complicated Russian attempts to hide their involvement in the tragedy.

Geographic Options

Several airports were located near the incident site:

  • Magas (55 km)
  • Beslan (90 km)
  • Makhachkala (170 km)
  • Tbilisi (190 km)

However, despite closer alternatives, the aircraft was directed to distant Aktau across the Caspian Sea, significantly increasing risks for passengers and crew.
