Referendum: Zelensky’s Position
President Zelensky emphasized that any referendum in Russian-occupied territories should be initiated by the Ukrainian people. He made it clear that such a move is not ideal given the current situation, as any result favoring Russian annexation would be seen as a victory for President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky stated that questions of Ukraine’s territorial integrity “cannot be resolved solely by the president” and must align with the country’s Constitution.
Diplomatic Path to Territory Recovery
Zelensky also highlighted that Ukraine should avoid liberating all its territories by force, as this would entail significant costs in terms of time and human lives. “We can recover our territories through diplomatic means,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of seeking peaceful solutions when possible.
Mobilization Challenges: Issues with Brigade Readiness
Another critical topic discussed was mobilization. Zelensky revealed that, despite increased mobilization efforts, there is still a shortage of troops on the battlefield. He explained that 14 brigades have been prepared, but only three are fully equipped with necessary weapons. This discrepancy poses significant challenges in the fight against Russian forces and requires urgent attention.
According to the president, the inadequate equipping of military units is a serious issue that demands a comprehensive solution. Military resources are crucial for effective combat operations and national security.
