According to The Washington Post, despite President Biden’s pressure on Congress to approve $60 billion, administration representatives acknowledge that the funds may not be allocated.
“A lack of additional measures for Ukraine will not bode well over time, and it could potentially lead to collapse,” said a high-ranking American official. “But even if Ukraine holds out, we’re essentially saying that we’re going to pay for it with countless lives.”
Olha Stefanyshyna, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, emphasized that “every day of Western indecision” will result in more human casualties and worsen the country’s military prospects.
“The resilience of Ukraine should not be taken for granted,” she said.
The publication quotes an advisor to Zelensky, who warned that occupiers could seize new territories if Ukraine doesn’t receive new aid from the States by summer:
“People don’t understand how dire the front lines are right now. Morale is low; the impulse is low. Young men are afraid they’ll be sent to die due to lack of weaponry.”
Ukrainian politicians have informed European and American officials that ammunition for some of their air defense systems may be nearly depleted by the end of March.
Currently, Washington is exploring how the Pentagon can continue to provide assistance, including the possibility of donating weapons from US stocks up to $4 billion.
