Kyiv, July 31, 2024 – At the end of July, a unit of Ukrainian special forces from the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) of the Ministry of Defense, known as “Khimik,” carried out a comprehensive strike on Russian military positions in Syria. This was reported by Kyiv Post, which also showcased exclusive footage of the attack.
Attack Confirmation from Ukrainian Intelligence
A source in Ukrainian intelligence confirmed this information to UNIAN. “We can confirm the information; it is accurate,” said the source, validating the report.
Target of the Attack – Russian Airbase
The attack targeted Russian military equipment stationed at the Kuweires airbase, located east of Aleppo and controlled by Russian forces. This strike occurred just one day after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on July 24.
Context of Russian Aggression
The Ukrainian special forces’ strike on Russian positions in Syria represents another step in countering Russian aggression. For years, Russia has actively supported Bashar al-Assad’s regime by providing military assistance and deploying its troops in Syria. This not only escalates regional tensions but also poses additional challenges to international security.
Ukraine, in turn, is showing its readiness to actively counter Russia’s aggressive actions not only within its own territory but also beyond its borders. The strike on the Russian airbase in Syria is a vivid example of such a strategy.
International Response
It is worth noting that Ukraine’s activities on the international stage receive support from the West. The United States and its allies are actively discussing new sanctions against Russia and its partners for supporting military actions. Recently, Chinese banks that aid Russia in financing military operations have come under scrutiny.
Deepening Crisis
This event reflects the further deepening of the conflict, with Ukraine and Russia on opposing sides. At the same time, it demonstrates Ukraine’s determination in its fight for independence and security.
