The situation on the battlefield in Ukraine is intensifying, as confirmed by the testimonies of soldiers evacuated after being wounded in the Kursk region. Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers with the call signs “Prophet” and “Zluka” shared their dramatic experiences, highlighting the increasing challenges faced by Ukrainian fighters.

A Battle with Russian Tanks: How the Enemy’s Drunkenness Played into the Hands of the Ukrainian Forces

One of the most striking accounts is the story of how Ukrainian troops managed to capture an entire Russian tank unit. Through intercepted radio communications, it became clear that the enemy soldiers were debating whether to surrender. “They were drunk and started arguing about what to do next. Then they began shooting at each other,” Zluka told the British newspaper The Times.

However, this victory came at a high cost. Just days after this incident, the Ukrainian soldiers came under heavy fire and were attacked by enemy drones. The retreat was extremely difficult—after 40 minutes of waiting for help, they finally managed to evacuate.

The Loss of Comrades: The Harsh Realities of the Kursk Operation

Another evacuated soldier sadly recalled an ambush in which only five out of his group of fifteen survived. “We’re losing a lot of people,” he said, his grief evident.

These testimonies confirm that the battles on the front lines are far more challenging than one might imagine from media reports. Despite this, the Kursk operation holds significant strategic and moral value for both the military and Ukrainian civilians.

The Impact of the Kursk Operation: Moral Boost and Disrupted Moscow Narratives

The operation in the Kursk region not only weakened the enemy but also strengthened the morale of Ukrainians. It shattered the Russian narrative of a war of attrition that Ukraine is allegedly losing. It’s also important to note that this operation allowed Ukrainian authorities to debunk Moscow’s claims about “red lines” that supposedly cannot be crossed without risking nuclear retaliation.

Russia was displeased with the visit of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. Grossi visited the site on August 27 and warned of the potential for a serious nuclear accident, provoking anger from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The IAEA Chief’s Visit and Russia’s Reaction

Following Grossi’s visit, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made a vague statement expressing dissatisfaction with the IAEA’s work. “We see the assessments and work of this organization, but each time we want a more objective and clear expression of their position,” Zakharova noted.

It’s worth mentioning that Grossi inspected the damage caused by a drone strike, which Russia blamed on Ukraine, but did not name those responsible for the incident.
