Ukraine continues to demonstrate its capability to create advanced military technologies, even amid a full-scale war with Russia. Commander of the Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems, Vadym Sukharievskyi, revealed during the conference “European Defense Industry: Prospects for Cooperation with the Ukrainian Defense Industry” that Ukraine has joined the exclusive ranks of five countries globally that possess laser weaponry.

“We can confirm that today Ukraine is, if I’m not mistaken, the fifth country in the world that can proudly state it has its own laser weapon. As of now, we are able to shoot down aircraft at an altitude of over 2 kilometers using this technology,” Sukharievskyi stated.

Trident Laser: A Breakthrough in Military Technology

The laser weapon, known as the “Trident,” is not just a symbol of Ukraine’s technological strength but also a significant contribution to the global defense industry. According to Sukharievskyi, the system is already operational, and experts are working on its further development. “At present, we are on the path to scaling and enhancing this laser. It’s functional, and it’s real,” he emphasized.

Laser weapons are critical in countering enemy aircraft and drones, offering new possibilities for protecting critical infrastructure and enhancing national defense.

Mother Drones: Innovations in Unmanned Systems

In addition to laser weaponry, Ukraine is actively advancing new drone technologies. Among the latest achievements is the so-called “mother drone,” capable of operating over 70 kilometers beyond the front lines. These systems carry lightweight FPV (First Person View) strike drones that can target enemy positions deep in their territory.

“We are deploying what we call ‘mother drones,’ which act as relay stations while carrying two FPV drones. This allows them to operate effectively at long distances, striking significant enemy targets. To me, this is a real breakthrough,” Sukharievskyi noted.

This approach enables the creation of a network of drones that interact seamlessly, improving efficiency and reducing dependency on external communication channels.

The Context of Russian Aggression and Ukrainian Innovations

Faced with constant threats from Russia, which continues to target both civilian and military facilities in Ukraine, developing high-tech solutions is not just a matter of prestige but survival. Laser weaponry and cutting-edge unmanned systems demonstrate that Ukraine can respond to the challenges of war with technological advancements.

Despite limited resources and challenging conditions, Ukraine’s defense sector is integrating advanced technologies to not only protect the country but also contribute to global security.
