Kherson, Ukraine – April 14, 2024 – Russian forces, who have unlawfully seized parts of the Kherson region, continue to terrorize the local population by planting mines in agricultural lands, reports the National Resistance Center.
“With these actions, the occupiers once again endanger the lives of civilians,” the statement reads. “Mine-laying not only poses a danger to the movement of people but also hinders the operation of specialized machinery, such as combines, necessary for field cultivation and harvest collection.”
The mining of fields not only poses a direct threat to human lives but also threatens the food security of the region and the entire Ukraine. Due to the inability to cultivate land and harvest crops, there is a risk of food shortages.
This is another war crime committed by Russia and must be condemned by the global community. Ukrainian military and law enforcement agencies are taking measures to demine the territories, but this is a complex and dangerous process that requires a lot of time and resources.
It is crucial for the world to be aware of the crimes of Russian occupiers in Kherson. The international community must increase pressure on Russia to compel it to cease its crimes against the peaceful population of Ukraine and withdraw its forces from its territory.
Furthermore, it is important to assist Ukraine in demining contaminated areas and restoring agriculture. This will help ensure the food security of the country and return people to their homes.
