Following the devastating Russian strike in July, Ukraine’s National Specialized Children’s Hospital “Okhmatdyt” has become a focal point not only for Ukrainians but for the global community as well. Thanks to the efforts of the government, charitable organizations, and compassionate citizens, more than a billion UAH has been raised for the hospital’s reconstruction. Health Minister Viktor Lyashko announced this significant milestone.
Sources of Funding
Minister Lyashko highlighted that this total amount does not include contributions from international partners, which also play a crucial role in the recovery process. The funds have been collected from the following sources:
- 312 million UAH deposited into the Okhmatdyt hospital’s charity account;
- 378 million UAH contributed to the Okhmatdyt Charity Foundation account;
- 320 million UAH raised through the UNITED24 platform;
- 100 million UAH allocated by the government from the reserve fund.
Context of the Russian Aggression
The July strike serves as another stark reminder of the brutality and recklessness of the Russian Federation in its aggression against Ukraine. Okhmatdyt, one of the country’s most vital medical institutions, has always been a beacon of hope and care for children. Now, it stands as a symbol of the resilience and unity of the Ukrainian people.
The attack on this children’s hospital highlights the scale of the humanitarian crisis caused by the war. Restoring Okhmatdyt is crucial not only for medical care but also for the psychological recovery of the community.
Importance of Support
The funds raised demonstrate the immense solidarity of both Ukrainians and the international community. Every hryvnia donated to Okhmatdyt’s accounts represents a step towards restoring normalcy for hundreds of children who require specialized treatment. Minister Lyashko emphasized that rebuilding the hospital involves more than just physical reconstruction; it includes upgrading medical equipment, creating comfortable patient environments, and ensuring high-quality medical services.
Ukraine continues to fight not only on the battlefield but also to restore normal life for its citizens. The reconstruction of Okhmatdyt is a significant step in this ongoing effort.
