According to a statement from the advisor to the mayor, Petro Andryushenko, an outbreak of cholera is being observed in the occupied city of Mariupol, primarily affecting children. The occupying authorities are attempting to conceal this information, refraining from declaring quarantine measures and endangering the lives of Mariupol residents.

The occupying authorities bear full responsibility for protecting the civilian population, including preventing the spread of infections and treating the sick. Unfortunately, they seem indifferent to the plight of the people, leaving Mariupol residents to fend for their own safety.

Causes of the Outbreak:

  • Lack of access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities: Occupiers have taken no measures to restore the destroyed infrastructure, leading to a catastrophic shortage of clean water and the accumulation of filth.
  • Unsanitary conditions: Ruined buildings, piles of garbage, and filth create favorable conditions for the spread of cholera bacteria.
  • Hot weather conditions: The onset of spring has intensified the heat in Mariupol, creating a conducive environment for cholera.

Symptoms of Cholera:

  • Severe diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Muscle cramps

Cholera Prevention:

  • Adherence to personal hygiene rules: Thoroughly wash hands with soap after using the toilet and before eating.
  • Drinking only boiled or bottled water: Avoiding water from unverified sources.
  • Avoiding consumption of raw vegetables and fruits that cannot be peeled: Eating only thoroughly processed food.
  • Avoiding bathing in open water bodies.

Threat to Children:

Children are more susceptible to the risk of cholera infection as their bodies are not yet fully equipped to fight off the infection.
