President Volodymyr Zelensky recently participated in a press conference following the “Ukraine. Year 2024” forum, where he addressed critical matters shaping the country’s political and economic trajectory. The conference touched upon key themes, including relations with Russia, the ongoing conflict, and collaboration with global partners.
Expressing concern over external pressures, Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to determining its own path in the world. “We don’t want external forces imposing formats and formulas on us; initiatives must originate from Ukraine,” he asserted, underscoring the nation’s desire for autonomy in decision-making.
In response to questions about democratic and non-democratic countries’ actions, Zelensky highlighted Ukraine’s reluctance to adopt initiatives that do not align with its interests. “I don’t want initiatives coming from either democratic or non-democratic countries that do not align with Ukraine’s interests,” he stated.
The President announced the upcoming summit on the Ukrainian “Formula for Peace” in Switzerland, emphasizing the importance of independent initiatives and decision-making. He also addressed Russia’s actions, stating that leaving the grain agreement had not hindered Ukraine and expressing determination to resolve the conflict with Russia by 2030.
Touching on military matters, Zelensky stressed the strategic importance of U.S. support and cited examples, such as the Patriot missile system and Taurus missiles. He expressed hope for U.S. Congress support and urged swift assistance, as “the end may come very quickly.”
Zelensky expressed frustration with delays in arms shipments from the European Union and highlighted the significance of Ukraine’s accession to the EU. “We want to join the EU; it’s a historic choice for us,” he emphasized.
Turning to internal affairs, Zelensky addressed the issue of Oleg Zaluzhny’s dismissal as an internal matter, expressing displeasure with the slow pace of arms deliveries.
In conclusion, Zelensky emphasized the pivotal nature of the year 2024 and its role in shaping Ukraine’s destiny. “This year is pivotal; the format of ending the war depends on it,” he declared, highlighting the significance of upcoming events and international cooperation.
