Ukrainian citizens may soon face new checks on power outage schedules aimed at ensuring fair distribution of electricity. According to Ruslan Slobodian, the head of the State Energy Inspectorate, several regions require thorough inspections. This concerns areas where there are reasonable suspicions of improper application of hourly outage schedules.

Slobodian stated, “There are justified suspicions that some distribution system operators (oblenergos) did not correctly implement the hourly outage schedules. We will scrutinize this carefully. Depending on the findings, appropriate directives will be issued to rectify the violations, along with recommendations to prevent their recurrence.”

The inspections will commence with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, which has emerged as a leader among regions where potential irregularities have been identified. This region will undergo meticulous scrutiny to identify any possible abuses.

Context of Russian Aggression and Energy Crisis

These inspections unfold against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, which has resulted in significant infrastructure damage, including energy facilities. Russian shelling has destroyed numerous power stations and transmission lines, exacerbating electricity shortages in the country. Therefore, ensuring fair distribution of electricity between regions has become crucial.

In the midst of war, distributing electricity has become a challenging task for Ukrainian energy authorities. Improper application of outage schedules could worsen conditions in already affected regions, compounding the consequences of military actions. Hence, these inspections aim to uphold fairness and equity in electricity distribution, ensuring each region receives its rightful share of resources according to its needs.

Prospects and Further Steps

Following the inspections, appropriate measures will be taken, including issuing directives to address identified violations. This will contribute to a more equitable and efficient use of limited resources, enhancing public trust in the electricity distribution system.

Monitoring compliance with outage schedules marks a significant step towards ensuring the country’s energy security amid wartime conditions. Similar inspections are expected to be conducted in other regions to prevent potential abuses and ensure stable electricity supply.
