Ukraine Can Use the Experience of World War I to Win Without a Major Offensive

Ukraine can draw on the experience of World War I to defeat Russia while minimizing losses and preserving its strength. This strategy was proposed by Taras Zahorodniy, managing partner of the National Anti-Crisis Group, during an appearance on the show “Tema z Moseychuk.” According to him, blindly following the advice of Western experts, who advocate for counteroffensives, might not be the best approach for Ukraine.

The World War I model shows that exhausting the enemy could be a decisive factor. Zahorodniy cited the example of Germany, which wasn’t pushed out of France through massive counteroffensives but eventually withdrew from Europe due to exhaustion. The expert believes Ukraine could follow a similar path.

Instead of direct offensive actions, Ukraine should focus on destroying key Russian military targets with modern weaponry. “We need weapons to strike their command centers. This would undermine their ability to launch further offensives and weaken their military capabilities,” said Zahorodniy. He argues that this approach would help Ukraine avoid large-scale losses and increase the chances of success.

This strategy becomes particularly crucial during the winter months. Targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure and destroying oil depots can be a powerful bargaining chip in negotiations. According to the expert, attacks on these strategic facilities not only weaken Russia militarily but also economically, bringing the end of the war closer.

Thus, Ukraine can leverage the lessons of global wars to wear down the enemy and force a retreat without risking heavy losses through major counteroffensives.
