Yesterday, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Ivan Umerov, expressed serious concerns about the sharp increase in attacks by Russian forces waging war on our country. According to him, virtually all rockets, drones, and guided bombs launched by Russia since the beginning of 2024 were not aimed at military targets but at civilian population and civilian infrastructure.
The most shocking aspect was the statistic provided by the Minister of Defense: only 3% of all targeted objects were military targets, while 97% were civilian settlements and civilian infrastructure. This not only indicates the negligence and ignorance of those leading the Russian forces but also deliberate violations of international rules of war.
It is known that victims of these attacks include not only military personnel but also vulnerable civilian residents, women, children, and the elderly. Schools, hospitals, houses, as well as power plants and other civilian infrastructure, were damaged. This has led to a humanitarian crisis and an exacerbation of the humanitarian situation in the region.
Furthermore, such behavior by Russia not only violates international norms but also deeply outrages the global community, which condemns these ruthless attacks on the civilian population. European and global leaders have already expressed their support for Ukraine and called on Russia to cease this aggression and respect international law.
In this context, it is crucial for the international community to act promptly and decisively to halt these senseless attacks on the civilian population. Ukraine, for its part, will continue to fight for its independence and territorial integrity and demand accountability for these criminal actions by Russia on the international stage.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, but international support and outrage over Russia’s actions are key elements in securing peace and stability in the region.
