According to Western experts, the Russian air forces have significantly increased their effectiveness in the war in Ukraine due to the wider use of “planning bombs,” contributing to Moscow’s recent successes on the battlefield.
These numerous bombs from Soviet times, carrying up to half a ton of explosives, have been equipped with wings and guidance systems to fly long distances with a certain degree of accuracy, allowing Russian aircraft deploying them to operate far from Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems, the publication writes.
“Alongside drones, missiles, and artillery, planning bombs have added a new devastating firepower to the Russian campaign in eastern Ukraine, as evidenced by the recent capture of Avdiivka,” the material states.
