During the ongoing conflict, Russia has significantly ramped up its production of ammunition, defying international sanctions and efforts to curtail its military capabilities. According to The Moscow Times, despite Western sanctions targeting electronic components crucial for military hardware, Russia has managed to acquire necessary materials, including nitrocellulose and other explosives-related supplies, through alternative means, albeit at higher costs.

In recent months, Russian production has surged in several key categories:

  • 152-millimeter artillery shells increased by 5.3 times;
  • Shells for multiple rocket launchers like “Grad” rose by 15.2 times, and “Uragan” by 6.1 times;
  • Cruise missiles X-101, actively used against Ukraine, grew by 7.5 times;
  • Missiles 9M723 “Iskander” saw an increase of over 3 times;
  • Iranian drones Shahed-136 escalated by 6.3 times.

These figures underscore Russia’s concerted efforts to bolster its military might despite international pressure and sanctions.

In response to these threats, Ukrainian authorities have secured assistance from the Netherlands in the form of Patriot air defense systems, a pivotal component of Ukraine’s security strategy.

The increase in Russian arms production continues to escalate tensions in the region, with potential geopolitical implications affecting the security landscape across Europe.
