Ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ conference in Brussels, a divergence of views emerged regarding Secretary General Stoltenberg’s proposal to establish a €100 billion fund to support Ukraine over the next five years. The question remains whether the alliance has the necessary resources for such an ambitious project.

According to Politico, citing an unnamed diplomat, some foreign ministers expressed surprise at the funding volumes proposed by the Secretary General. They voiced concern and apprehension about the implementation of such a large sum.

“It is very dangerous to make promises that we may not be able to fulfill,” noted Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Labib.

Meanwhile, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Turkey voiced their support for the idea of establishing the fund, considering it an important step in strengthening security in the region. German Foreign Minister Berbok emphasized the need to create “reliable and long-term mechanisms of assistance for Ukraine.”

The positions of NATO member states have diverged, indicating the complexity of discussing security issues in the region. Resolving this issue requires constructive dialogue and finding compromise solutions.
