A high-profile summit, Securing Our Future, took place in London, focusing on strengthening European security and supporting Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression. The event was attended by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as well as leaders from Poland, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Italy, and Romania, alongside representatives from Turkey and Canada. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also joined the discussions.

Europe Must Rely on Itself: Donald Tusk’s Statement

Ahead of the summit, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed the need to bolster European defense and reduce reliance on the United States. “Five hundred million Europeans are asking 300 million Americans to protect them from 140 million Russians. That’s a paradox!” he stated. Tusk emphasized that Europe is a global power that must recognize its own strength and ability to defend itself.

Key Topics: Nuclear Deterrence and Military Aid for Ukraine

One of the main subjects discussed at the summit was nuclear deterrence, particularly for countries without their own nuclear arsenal. French President Emmanuel Macron underscored the importance of dialogue on this matter, emphasizing the need to strengthen Europe’s defense capabilities.

The role of the United States in ensuring the continent’s security was also a key point of discussion. Keir Starmer stressed that despite internal political challenges, the West must remain united in its commitment to peace and security.

Ukraine to Receive Financial Aid and Advanced Weaponry

As a result of the summit, the UK announced a £1.6 billion export finance package for Ukraine. According to Starmer, these funds will enable Kyiv to acquire over 5,000 air defense missiles, which will be produced in Belfast.

Additionally, Starmer stated that if a peace agreement is reached, London will send a military contingent to Ukraine to oversee its implementation. “We must strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, and our support will be unwavering,” he said.

NATO: Europe Must Rearm and Ensure Ukraine’s Security

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte emphasized that the alliance is preparing for a potential ceasefire in Ukraine and will guarantee its enforcement. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for an urgent rearmament of Europe to deter further Russian aggression.

Following the summit, the Polish Prime Minister declared that “Europe has finally woken up” and now stands united in its support for Ukraine. Leaders agreed on the necessity of reinforcing the EU’s eastern borders and enhancing transatlantic cooperation.

Support for Zelenskyy After Dispute with Trump

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his support for Volodymyr Zelenskyy following his heated exchange with Donald Trump. “The Ukrainian president simply stated the obvious—Putin is a liar and a criminal who cannot be trusted,” Trudeau said, emphasizing that the Russian leader has repeatedly violated international agreements.

Prospects for a Peaceful Resolution

Starmer also announced that London, Paris, and their allies will develop a joint plan to end the war in Ukraine. However, he made it clear that Russia cannot dictate the terms of any peace settlement. “We must work closely with the United States, and I plan to meet with Donald Trump soon to discuss a common strategy on Ukraine,” he stated.

The Securing Our Future summit in London has thus become another significant step in the West’s consolidation against Russian aggression. European leaders continue to demonstrate their readiness for long-term support of Ukraine and the strengthening of the continent’s defense capabilities.
