Is Russia preparing for war with NATO? Denmark sounds the alarm

Danish Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, has asserted that Russia is rapidly increasing its military strength more than anticipated, posing a potential threat to NATO countries within 3-5 years.

“There is a possibility that Russia intends to attack,” Poulsen stated. “Currently, they may acquire the military capability for this much sooner than we had predicted. This is genuinely cause for concern. NATO did not expect such a development in 2023. This is new information emerging only now.”

Growing Concern

Poulsen’s statement is just one of several similar warnings from European countries in recent weeks. Financial Times reports that many in Europe fear Russia may attempt to “test the strength” of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which guarantees collective defense, over the next decade.

West’s Setback?

Some experts also believe that Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential elections could further strengthen Putin’s regime, heightening the risk of an attack on NATO.

Russia’s Military Buildup

Mikael Johansson, the CEO of Saab, a leading European defense company, expressed concern in an interview with FT that Russia produces ten times more artillery shells than Europe, ranging from 4 to 5 million annually. He urged Western governments to provide defense companies with longer-term assurances.

What’s Next?

Poulsen’s statement and those of other European leaders underscore the growing global concern regarding Russia’s aggressive intentions. NATO and its member countries must take measures to restrain Russia and protect their members.
