Following the circulation of information regarding the reinstatement of journalists’ access to the corridors of the Ukrainian Parliament, Vyacheslav Shchuchny, the head of the Parliament’s Apparatus, announced the resumption of the practice introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to his statement, 20-30 media representatives will be allowed access during the Parliament’s sessions in the building. Applications for accreditation from journalists have already been received, along with readiness for additional accreditation processes. A briefing for journalists on the rules of conduct within the parliament is scheduled after the Easter celebrations.
Valentina Savitska, a representative of the Security Service, noted that previously, over 4,000 media representatives were accredited in the Parliament, hence the necessity for proper verification of journalists for access to the parliamentary building.
The restoration of access to the corridors of the Ukrainian Parliament will ultimately contribute to ensuring transparency and accessibility of information regarding the legislative process in Ukraine. The implementation of additional accreditation and briefings signifies societal pressure, amid wartime conditions, to obtain objective and transparent information about the activities of the Ukrainian Parliament.
