On July 24, 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully repelled one of the largest mechanized attacks by Russian occupation forces in the western Donetsk region since October 2023. This information was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing a Ukrainian brigade stationed in the Kurakhove area.
The attack was launched with a significant concentration of military assets, including 11 tanks, 45 armored combat vehicles, a rare “Terminator” combat vehicle, 12 motorcycles, and approximately 200 personnel.
Ukrainian reconnaissance, utilizing drones, detected the mechanized columns from a distance. This early detection enabled Ukrainian defenders to effectively deploy artillery, drones, and minefields to counter the enemy’s advance. The coordinated defensive efforts resulted in the successful thwarting of the attack, leading to substantial losses among the invaders.
This event underscores the resilience and professionalism of the Ukrainian military, which continues to defend its homeland against Russian aggression. The increased intensity of fighting since October 2023, particularly in the east and south of Ukraine, highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian forces as they resist efforts by Russia to destabilize and capture new territories.
