Today, an unexpected visitor arrived in Kyiv – US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, bringing not only words of support but also promises of concrete actions in this challenging time for Ukraine.
“Blinken emphasized: “Today, I returned to Kyiv to demonstrate our unwavering support for Ukraine, which is defending its freedom against Russian aggression”.
The meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky was marked by concrete discussions. Zelensky stressed that Kharkiv and its region are in need of two Patriot missile defense systems. The Ukrainian president underscored that the provision of new military aid from the US is crucial and is a highly relevant task.
“It is very important for us to receive this aid as soon as possible,” emphasized Zelensky.
Furthermore, the president highlighted the necessity to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense as missile defense systems are becoming increasingly scarce for the Armed Forces.
“This is the biggest problem, and we really need two ‘Patriots’ for Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region right now,” added Zelensky.
The president also emphasized that residents of this region live under constant threat of missile attacks from Russia, thus obtaining security guarantees and mobilizing as many countries as possible for an international summit are extremely important tasks.
In turn, Blinken promised Ukraine more assistance that would change the situation on the battlefield.
“We admire your resilience, your strength, and your leadership. We know this is a challenging time, but we also know that help is on the way, some has already arrived, and more will come. And this will change the situation in the fight against ongoing Russian aggression on the battlefield. We are ready, along with many other partners of Ukraine, to ensure that you succeed on the battlefield,” stressed the US Secretary of State.
He added that the United States, together with its partners, is determined to help Ukraine become strong both militarily and economically and democratically. According to Blinken, a strong, successful, thriving, and free Ukraine will be the best response to Putin’s actions and the best guarantee for the country’s future.
Blinken also assured that the United States remains faithful partners of Ukraine and will continue to provide assistance.
“As you have already mentioned, we face a number of critical questions that we need to address in the coming months. We want, along with many other partners, to make these months successful and to address the challenges you face,” added Blinken.
The meeting between Blinken and Zelensky opens a new chapter in the cooperation between the United States and Ukraine in the fight for the security, stability, and independence of the country. Commitments of assistance and support, not only in words but also in concrete actions, demonstrate the seriousness of intentions of both sides to defend civilization values against the threat of dictatorships.
