Russian Occupiers Launch Rocket Strike on Chernihiv, Targeting Hospital: Casualties Reported

On April 17, 2024, Russian forces launched a rocket strike on the center of Chernihiv. The bombardment resulted in 17 fatalities and 61 injuries, including three children.

The occupiers fired “Iskander” missiles at the city, hitting residential buildings, a hospital, and other civilian infrastructure.

“This is another crime committed by Russia against the peaceful population of Ukraine,” stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “The death toll may rise as there may still be people under the rubble. This wouldn’t have happened if Ukraine had sufficient air defense capabilities and if the international community more decisively opposed Russian terror.”

Rescue services continue to clear rubble and search for survivors. Police, medics, and other services are operating at the scene.

The city authorities urge residents of Chernihiv not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

This is not the first shelling of Chernihiv by Russian occupiers. According to the UN, over 2000 civilians have been killed in the city since the beginning of the war. This time, Russian fascists targeted a hospital. It is intriguing to consider what military significance hospitals hold in the eyes of Russians, but this is far from the first hospital they have destroyed. This underscores once again that Ukraine is defending the world from inhumane individuals who have no regard for the fact that women, children, and the elderly are treated in hospitals, seeking to kill and destroy without regard for anything sacred.

The world must more decisively condemn Russia’s crimes and assist Ukraine in defending its skies.
